Bulandshahr gang-rape case: Renuka Chowdhury says ‘rape to chalte hi rehta hain’

New Delhi: While responding to the Bulandshahr gang-rape case in which the Uttar Pradesh police have arrested three accused. The Congress senior leader Renuka Chowdhury on Tuesday sparked a controversy with her “rape to chalte hi rehte hain” (rape is common) remark.

She said that one would not pat those in power because of delayed police action.Chowdhury, said, “Be it the police investigation or something else, this has taken place after a long time. Now, we will have to see the future course of action because we are fed up of the situation where we hear someone or the other talking on rape everyday when we wake up.”

On July 29 when the mother-daughter duo, accompanied by four other family members, was dragged out of their car on the highway and raped in a nearby field in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district.

The UP Police has arrested the main accuse in the case on Monday night.

The Allahabad High Court Monday sought to know from the Uttar Pradesh government its stand on handing over the probe into the Bulandshahr gangrape case to the CBI.

The bench deferred the hearing till August 22, asking the parties to file an affidavit regarding the development on another petition on the same issue in Allahabad.
