Bulandshahr gangrape case: Main accuse and two others held, says UP Police

Agra: After a week-long chase across east India.The main accuse in Bulandshahr gang-rape has been arrested.

Salim Bawaria, is the head of a criminal gang from Rajasthan, was arrested from Meerut along with two others. All three accused were reportedly from the Bawaria gang, a tribal group involved in robberies, mostly on highways.

Now all six accused in the case are in police custody. A senior police officer said the accused are from Chaimaar community a tribe based in Rajasthan. “The 15-member gang was active in UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand. They were also involved in a dacoity in Hanumangarh area of Rajasthan,” he said.

Advocate General Vijay Bahadur Singh said, “The court has sought the state government’s stand on handing over the case to CBI… and what preventive steps ought to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future… The court has also directed that a report be submitted to the Bulandshahr senior superintendent of police with regard to the investigation carried out in the case so far.”

The family from Noida was driving to a funeral in Bulandshahr, on the night of July 31, around 65 km from Delhi. Their car was stopped and they were robbed and beaten. The minor girl and her mother was sexually assaulted for three hours after dragging them out of the vehicle.

The incident took place barely 100 meters from a police post but no one heard any shouts for help.
