Butterfly Garden inaugurated at Sanjeevaiah Park

On the eve of Telangana State Formation Day today, the Butterfly Garden developed in Sanjeevaiah Park has been inaugurated.

           

The park was inauguraged by  Ministers Srinivas Yadav,  Laxma Reddy,  A.  Indrakaran Reddy,  Padma Rao, B. Ram   Mohan, Mayor, GHMC and Fasiyuddin Baba, Dy. Mayor, GHMC. T. Chiranjeevulu, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, HMDA and Swargam Srinvas, IFS, Director, Urban Forestry, HMDA were present at the inauguration. A brochure on the attractions of Sanjeevaiah Park was also unveiled by the guests. 

 Hussain Sagar Lake and its surroundings have bio diversity. A total number of 50 species of butterflies were recorded in and around Hussain Sagar Lake. In Sanjeevaiah Park with colourful range of shrubs, creepers and trees with flowers, attracts swarms of butterflies, at least 30 to 40 varieties.

Butterfly gardening was designed to create an environment that attracts butterflies, as well as certain moths. Butterfly gardening is often aimed at inviting those butterflies and moths to lay eggs as well. The Hussainsagar and surroundings have very wide diversity of Butterflies. The same has to be restored while inviting new guests to improve the bio diversity. The Butterfly Park is proposed to be developed in 4.5 acres. About 60 varieties of flowering and nectar yielding, Butterfly attracting species have already been planted in the area. (NSS)
