Centre asks states to organise gram sabhas on Oct 2

New Delhi:The Centre has asked states to organise gram sabhas to deliberate where the panchayats stand with regard to reduction of deprivation of poor households.

“Gandhi Jayanti is an occasion for gram sabhas to deliberate on the progress made and priorities for reducing deprivation of the poor,” Rural Development Secretary Amarjeet Sinha said in a letter to state principal secretaries of rural development.

Through this exercise, the Union Rural Development Ministry is looking to get an idea where every gram panchayat stands to become poverty-free.

“..I would like to urge the states to use the opportunity to reflect on where the Gram Panchayats stand with regard to reduction of deprivation of poor households,” Sinha said.

He added that it is an opportunity to see where the gram panchayat stands on parameters on Panchayat Darpan designed for Panchayats covered under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.

The Centre has asked states that panchayts which will be held on October 2, should conduct social audit through certified social auditors from self help groups (SHG).
