Centre emulates AP; Launches LED lighting program

Hyderabad: Govt of India has taken up LED lighting programme with a target to replace 77 Crore conventional bulbs in the domestic sector and another 3.5 Crore ordinary street lights with LED’s in the country by 2018-19. The gigantic program of Govt. of India is expected to result in substantial reduction of 21,500 MW electricity demand worth of Rs.40,000 Crores energy savings per annum.
Impressed with the success story of Andhra Pradesh in implementing LED scheme and other energy efficiency programmes, Govt of India has decided to show case the “AP’s LED Implementation Model” to other states so that they can emulate it in their respective states.
To achieve this endeavour, the Ministry of Power, Govt of India(GoI) has deputed a High Level Team headed by Managing Director/Energy Efficiency Services Limited, Sri.Saurabh Kumar to study the LED revolution brought about by the AP Government. It may be mentioned that Andhra Pradesh is rated as the best State in Energy Efficiency activities and achieved all the five national energy conservation awards recently. AP has achieved highest results with 22.5% as compared to the total LED bulbs distributed in the entire country.
As per the communication received from GoI, the high-level team is going to discuss with Govt. of AP on March 26 on the following issues: Achievement of distribution of over 1.85 Crores LED bulbs as on 24.03.2016. Proposal of A.P Govt for 100% coverage which requires another 45 lakh LED bulbs for distribution of 2 Nos. LED bulbs to Households at nominal cost of Rs 10 each. PositiveImpact of 3rd party monitoring eport on energy savings in four districts of Srikakulam, West Godavari, Guntur & Anantapur, which indicated the energy savings of 421 MU per annum (in the above four districts) & considerable reduction in electricity bills. Rapid expansion of LED Street Lighting programme to all ULBs and studying the savings in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), wherein Energy Savings of 70 Million Units were realised with reduced electricity bills of Rs 423 Lakh per Annum. Launching of pilot project on Energy Efficient Fans Programme (EEFP) in the State wherein consumer will get Energy efficient fan at a cost of Rs.955 as against market value of around Rs 1500. Disclosing the above developments Prl. Secretary (Energy, I&I, CRDA), Sri Ajay Jain said that the Saurabh Kumar committee is likely to meet the Chief Minister on Saturday and apprised him of the latest trends in energy efficiency in the country. While appreciating the efforts of official machinery for attracting national attention on Energy Efficiency, the CM has emphasised the need to further strive hard in mission mode for realising the substantial energy savings for the benefit of present & future generations.
“No Doubt the entire universe has realised that Energy conservation, Water Conservation & environmental protection are the key factors for survival of man kind”, CM said, revealed by Ajay Jain. On the occasion of visit of GoI team, the Principal Secretary, Energy, Ajay Jain who has discussed with Vijayanand, CMD/APTRANSCO/MD/APGENCO, K. Ranganatham, Advisor, Energy Dept, Dinesh Paruchuri, Director/Finance/APTRANSCO, R. Muthyala Raju and H.Y.Dora, CMD’s of DISCOMS on the above agenda / issues has said that the Govt. was keen that the benefits of Energy Efficiency & Energy Conservation should reach consumer. (NSS)
