Centre to introduce bill to increase AP, TS MLAs

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday informed that the BJP-led NDA Government would introduce a Bill in the Parliament to increase the number of MLAs in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Venkaiah Naidu said that the Bill would be introduced in the second phase of ongoing budget session of Parliament. He said that at the time of bifurcation, the Centre has promised to increase the Assembly constituencies to 153 in Telangana and 225 in Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister and Chief Secretaries of both the States have made representations to the Centre asking it fulfill the promise made in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. Therefore, he said the Bill to increase the Assembly constituencies in both the States would be presented after taking the opinion of Law Ministry and Attorney General. The Union Home Ministry would send the Bill to Parliament after carrying out necessary modifications. (INN)
