Centre ready to help distressed farmers in T’gana: Bandaru

Hyderabad: Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatraya today said the Centre is ready to help the distressed farmers in Telangana.

Talking to reporters after holding a review meeting with two state Ministers and officials of various departments, Dattatreya said he will discuss with Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh about the issues of farmers particularly with regard to those who have grown chili.

“I will apprise (him) on the plight of the red chili farmers in the state. Earlier, the rate of red chili was at Rs 14,000 per quintal, but this year in view of bumper crop, the rate has fallen to Rs 4,000 per quintal,” the Minister said.

“I have asked the state Agriculture minister to send detailed report on this so that it will be taken up with Union Agriculture minister,” he added.

Dattatreya said the government can also provide funds to farmers for procuring chili under the state intervention fund.
