Centre releases Rs 112 crore for Devadula; Harish efforts fructify

Hyderabad: In a major development, the Centre has released Rs 112 crore towards financial assistance to Devadula project in the Telangana State, according to information.
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, a few days ago, had urged the Centre to offer better funding for the irrigation projects besides timely support to obtain more loans from NABARD for speedy completion. Thus, Harish Rao’s efforts bore fruit and the Centre kept its promise of funding the project. Union Water Resources department has released the funds for the purpose as it had taken Devadula project under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program (AIBP).
With this, the much-awaited works of the project in Warangal district will be completed soon. Slated to be completed by 2017, the Devadula project draws water from Gangaram village in the Naxalite-infested Eturu Nagaram mandal of Warangal district and would irrigate 6.21 lakh acres of upland drought prone areas in Karimnagar, Medak, Warangal and Nalgonda districts. The project would utilise 38.18 tmc out of 467.24 tmc water available at intake point in the river Godavari. (NSS)
