Centre reviews security of airports, industrial units

New Delhi: The Centre on Friday reviewed the security of critical infrastructure, including airports and oil installations, in the wake of a breach at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi chaired the high-level meeting attended by top officials of the intelligence and security agencies, including Central Industrial Security Force, which guards the vital installations, official sources said.

The Union Home Secretary has instructed the officials to strengthen the peripheral as well as internal security of all critical infrastructure and remain on high alert in view of the heightened threat perception to airports and industrial units.

The meeting comes a day after a person breached the peripheral wall of the IGI airport in Delhi and entered the runway.

A general alert has already been sounded by the Home Ministry in view of the terror attack at Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, which left 18 soldiers dead.
