Centre will fulfill all promises: Nirmala

New Delhi: Indicating that the Centre was not averse to offer special status to Andhra Pradesh and to downplay the criticism, Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said the former will keep every promise made during bifurcation.

Talking to media persons here on Sunday, the Union minister said the Centre will keep all promises and not averse to granting special status. She slammed the Opposition for coming in the way of Parliament during its sessions. The Congress fears that Parliament sessions will fetch good name to the Centre, she alleged. They are obstructing the Parliamentary proceedings only for political gains.

Sitharaman also maintained that Union Minister Indrajith Singh’s comments were confined to just Bihar State and was not related to these two States. There is no comparison to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar which are separate cases, she said. Singh raised recommendations of 14th Finance Commission and related to only that northern State, Nirmala clarified. The Centre is not going back on its promises made to both Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. “Definitely, we will fulfill all the assurances given and promises made”, she remarked. (NSS)
