Chattisgarh: CRPF termed Sukma attack a raid by Naxals

Raipur: D M Awasthi, special Director General of Central Reserve Police asserted on Wednesday that the attack by Naxals on CRPF personnel was a raid rather than an ambush.

“This incident should be termed as raid rather than an ambush because every day our CRPF jawans who were patrolling in that area were being noticed by them. That’s why suddenly they were easily attacked,” he said.

He further told, “The CRPF’s was attacked while they were eating. I will not term this as intelligence failure nor a strategy collapse but will look into the matter and resolve things soon as possible. We need to conduct intelligence-based operations. As intelligence was shared between different agencies regularly even after that this incident came as a shock.”

Naxals attacked 74th Batallion of CRPF personnel when they were helping the population in road building. Twenty-five of the CRPF’s were killed and five got injured on Monday.

The Centre, yesterday, ensured that they’ll take action against the perpetrators of the ‘cold-blooded murder’ in Sukma.

Rajnath Singh, the union minister stated that the centre, along with the state government will work to bring the murderers to the book.

Singh, who paid homage to the jawans during a wreath laying ceremony in Raipur said that this cowardly and unfortunate act exposes desperation and frustration.

“It is a cold blooded murder by the extremists. The Centre and state governments will work together and take action in this regard,” Singh told a joint press while briefing up the matter with the chief minister.
