Chhattisgarh road accident leaves 17 dead

Raipur: The unfortunate incident occurred last night when the private luxury bus was on its way to the state capital Raipur from Gadhwa in Jharkhand.

At least 17 were killed and many others injured after a bus from Jharkhand’s Garhwa district fell off a bridge at Daldhowa Ghat in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district, reported IANS.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh visited the injured passengers being treated at the Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur and directed the health officials to provide best medical care to them.

“The bus was coming to Balrampur. There was a halt in between. A motorcycle was coming from front and the bus lost its control and fell off the bridge. There were 66 passengers, 13 of them have been brought here. One died and 12 are injured, but there is no serious injury,” he said.

“CRPF started operation at night itself. First aid was given by the medial team. Accident is huge and it is unfortunate. Now, all the victims have been hospitalized. A very successful rescue operation was conducted. The Chief Minister of Jharkhand has also said that all the medical facility will be provided. We have also announced a compensation of 30,000 to the family of the deceases,” he added.

Singh further said the district administration has been asked to extend all possible assistance to the injured.
