Chhotepur’s controversy exposes fissures in AAP: Congress

New Delhi: Taking a jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the ongoing controversy surrounding the party’s former Punjab convener Succha Singh Chhotepur, the Congress on Friday said this episode gives an idea to the people of Punjab as to what kind of governance they can expect under AAP in the future.

“One thing is very clear either this indicates internal friction within the AAP as their own people are now pulling them up or highlights the issue of corruption,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told ANI here.

“Whatever may be the truth, it shows the AAP in a negative light and gives an idea to the people of Punjab as to what kind of governance they can expect in the future. In addition, it also exposes the tall claims (made by AAP),” he added.

Meanwhile, the AAP removed Chhotepur from his post, after his video demanding bribe had surfaced on the social media.

The controversy had been a major embarrassment for the party which is eyeing the 2017 assembly polls, forcing 21 of its leaders from the state, including members of Parliament Bhagwant Mann and Sadhu Singh, writing a letter to party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanding his ouster.

Meanwhile, to prove his innocence, Chhotepur took on party supremo Arvind Kejriwal and accused his co-workers of falsely implicating him in a bid to tarnish his image, during a press conference earlier in the day.

He also said he was ready for a CBI probe.(ANI)
