The CISF constable, Pulak Rajbongshi, 27-year-old hailing from Assam, has committed suicide at the Chennai airport.
He shot himself dead by his service rifle at around 1.45 pm on Thursday in the airport toilet. He was on duty at gate No H 14. There was a minor panic at the airport due to the incident.
The police officials said the reason for him to take such an extreme step is not yet known.
A similar incident occurred last year where a (CISF) head constable from Uttar Pradesh was guarding the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial in Sriperumbdur shot himself dead with his service rifle.
