Citizenship row: Rahul Gandhi must make his stand clear, says Naqvi

New Delhi: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday asked Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to make his stand clear with regard to the showcause notice issued to him by the LK Advani-headed Lok Sabha ethics committee to respond to questions on whether he had once declared himself a British citizen.

“If he is a citizen of some country then he should make it clear. And if he is not making it clear then there is something wrong. If the ethics committee has issued a notice to him then he should definitely make it clear,” Naqvi told ANI here.

The Congress vice-president, however, today downplayed the showcause notice issued to him and said that he would deal with the concerned matter.

“We will deal that,” he told the media here after stepping out of the Lok Sabha where he made a statement over crop damage due to incessant rains and hailstorms.

Parliamentary Ethics Committee member Arjun Ram Meghwal earlier told ANI that it was a very serious matter and added the committee would discuss the further course of action once the Congress vice-president responds. (ANI)
