CM leaves it to farmers to decide on option

In the wake of mounting protests against the Mallanna Sagar project in Medak district, the State Government today announced to protect the interests of the farmers and offer suitable compensation. “Needed land acquisition will be done as per the wishes of the farmers”, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has said.

In an official communiqué here on Saturday, the Chief Minister noted that the State government was ready to implement either 2013 Act or GO No. 123 to acquire land. However, KCR left the choice to the farmers to decide any one of the two options. Those affected due to land acquisition under the project will also be compensated suitably, the Chief Minister said.

Earlier, KCR held a review meeting with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and officials and discussed on the land need and the protests by the Opposition and TD’s Revanth Reddy protest dharna for two days at Etigaddapadu near the project while some of the villagers came in support of the protest.

KCR also discussed on the land to be acquired and asked them to expedite the process by convincing the farmers through suitable compensation. “We must acquire the land as per the opinion and wishes of the farmers”, he said in the meeting. Experts reportedly felt that the farmers will be on the losing end if they prefer 2013 Land Acquisition Act to get compensation. (NSS)
