CM meets Gadkari; Centre agrees to develop 2600 km roads in TS

About 2600 km roads in Telangana are likely to get a face-lift as the Centre has extended its support and financial assistance.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao along with Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao and MP B Vinod Kumar today called on Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi and sought his help for transforming the roads and related projects. Gadkari agreed upon CM’s appeal for the roads development into national highways besides extending help for land acquisition at Military area in Secunderabad.

Tummala Nageshwar Rao told mediapersons later that they sought Defense land for expansion of Paradise- Bowenpally road into four-road national highway and help overcome hurdles in land acquisition of defense land. Nitin Gadkari agreed to the appeals of the Telangana government and promised to provide all assistance for the transformation of the roads into national highways, he said. Tummala also said the Union minister suggested to the State government to submit a report to him after completing land acquisition process.

During the crucial meeting, the Chief Minister urged the Union minister to extend support for taking up roads in the Naxal-infested areas, dry port works and those road projects promised after formation of Telagnana.

In a related development, IT Minister KT Rama Rao and Tummala Nageshwar Rao met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to release pending funds for two years for taking up road works. “We also sought Rs 1290 crore for taking up road project works at extremist affected areas”, they said. Besides seeking support for 2600 km road to be developed into national highways, KTR also urged the Centre to address the issues mentioned in the AP Reorganization Act and help complete road works in problematic areas. They also sought Central help for expansion of Yadadri–Warangal highway, speeding up of Amaravathi, Kothagudem and Jagadalpur highways, construction of second bridge at Bhadrachalam on Godavari and funds for laying four- lane roads in new districts.
