Cong. faults T Govt. for changing names of Irrigation projects in Khammam

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has expressed its objection for changing the names of Rajiv Dummugudem Project and Indira Sagar Rudramakota Lift Irrigation Scheme and redesign of the project plan and urge the government of Telangana to immediately change the plans of renaming the project and also to consider the sanctioned project design as is without any further delay.
TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has addressed a letter to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in this regard on Friday. In the letter Bhatti said that the Congress party has taken up Rajiv Dummugudem Project, Indira Sagar Rudramakota under the prestigious Jalayagnam project to serve the irrigation and drinking water needs of Khammam district in Telangana state. He said that it is understood from media that both the projects are planned to be redesigned and the title of the projects to be renamed as ‘Sri Rama Irrigation Scheme’.
He said that the Congress party likes to enlighten the government on naming the projects after leaders of repute, and both of them (Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi) are the recipients of the highest civil honor of Bharat Ratna; and both have served India as Prime Ministers. Both have spent their lives in serving the Indian society towards the development path and have also sacrificed their lives for the nation. The same has not been discussed/debated with the public representatives of Khammam, where the projects were proposed, he said and alleged that the very purpose of changing the name is with a political vendetta.
Stating that these projects were sanctioned and started by the erstwhile government of Congress party, he opined that by changing the names of these projects is not only insulting the great leaders of India but also self depiction of narrow-mindedness of the ruling party. (NSS)
