Congress asks Muslims to make representations with BC Commission on 12% quota

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Official Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin has appealed to the Muslims across Telangana State to make huge representations with the Telangana State Backward Classes Commission seeking 12% reservation for Muslims in the State.

Syed Nizamuddin, in a media statementĀ on Wednesday, said that BC Commissioner Chairman B.S. Ramulu and other members were touring all districts of Telangana for six days fromĀ March 10. He said that the political leaders, NGOs and individuals should submit petitions before the BC Commission Chairman or other members seeking 12% Muslim quota, as promised by the ruling TRS in its manifesto and later recommended by the Sudhir Commission. He appealed to the local Congress leaders to brief the BC Commission on the status of Muslims in their respective districts. He said enough data and statistics should be provided to the BC Commission so as to prove the backwardness of Muslims in each district.

The TPCC Spokesperson said that the petitions, to be submitted before the BC Commission, should not be generic, but the local leaders should provide specific details on poverty, illiteracy and other social problems among Muslims living in those districts. He thanked the BC Commission for touring the entire State so as to ensure conduct of public hearing in all 31 districts of Telangana. He said that the community leaders and all secular individuals should support the proposed enhancement in Muslim quota in jobs and education from present 4% to 12%.

Syed Nizamuddin also appealed the State Government to make proper arrangements for the visit of BC Commission to various districts and give wide publicity to ensure participation of large number of people in the process. He pointed out that TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has already made a representation with the BC Commission during its first public hearing held in Hyderabad seeking 12% quota for Muslims. He said he would request the TPCC Chief to issue a directive to all DCC Presidents and other leaders to make similar representatives in their respective district (NSS)
