Congress demands probe into Punjab pesticide scam, says suspension of officer not enough

New Delhi, 0ct.7 : Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad on Wednesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the sale and supply of pesticides that has damaged the cotton crop due to a whitefly attack, and added that suspending Agriculture Director Mangal Singh Sandhu is not enough.

“The situation of Punjab farmers has worsened, ineffective pesticides provided by the government has damaged all crops in the state. There is a complete misgovernance in the state,” he said.

Agriculture Director Mangal Singh Sandhu was suspended today after a preliminary probe in the pesticide scam found him guilty of “procedural lapses”. (ANI)
