Congress padayatra aimed at protecting cadre: Harish Rao

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has alleged that the Rythu Bharosa Yatra of Congress party was aimed at protecting the party cadre and not to condole the families of those farmers who committed suicide.

Speaking to media persons in Medak on Wednesday, Harish Rao condemned the Congress leaders for criticising TRS Government over farmers’ issue. He said that the Congress leaders have visited almost all areas of Medak district in recent past in the name of farmers. He said those visits were actually aimed at saving the party cadre from becoming extinct in Medak district.

Harish Rao said that the Congess party was not serious about the welfare of farmers. During their 10-year rule, from Dr. Y.S.Rajashekara Reddy to Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Congress ministers or leaders did not visit a single family of farmers who committed suicide. They are now shedding crocodile’s tears after losing power, he alleged adding that if the Congress leaders would have displayed same concern, then several irrigation projects in Telangana would have got completed thus preventing farmers from killing self.

The minister said that AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi too never spoke about farmers suicides during the UPA Rule. He claimed that the TRS leaders not only visited the families of deceased farmers, but also provided financial assistance to families of 53 families of farmers who committed suicide during previous Congress regime. He said that the Congress leaders have no moral right to speak about farmers problems. (INN)
