Cook urges triumphant England to maintain pressure on Proteas

Johannesburg: England skipper Alastair Cook has urged his side to keep maintaining stranglehold on South Africa in the upcoming matches despite their massive 241-run win against the Hashim Amla-led side in the opening Test at Kingsmead.

Cook admitted that South Africa have world-class players and, therefore, called on his side to be wary of their opponents in the forthcoming Tests.

Reflecting on his side’s performance, the 31-year-old opener admitted that Nick Compton had played extremely well as he had set up the first innings with brilliant 85, Sport24 reported.

Cook said that he was extremely glad that his side were able to get back their form in the Boxing Day Test.

Admitting that there was a good balance in his team, Cook insisted that England had taken big strides as a team and they were really hungry to win the matches.

With the win, England have taken 1-0 lead in the series. The second Test of the four-match series against South Africa will be played at Newlands from Saturday. (ANI)
