Cows and buffaloes dying of Septicaemia in UP village, where are the funds?

Lucknow : More than a dozen of milk producing cows and buffaloes have died of a deadly disease since September 28 when Mohammad Ikhlaq was lynched by the mob over rumours of beef eating and also storing it in his house.

The incident took place in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to a report published in Mailtoday, there are over two dozen cows and buffaloes that are suffering from gal ghotu (Heamorrhagic Septicaemia) and are about to die.

Gal ghotu (Heamorrhagic Septicaemia) is a disease in which bacteria enters the blood causing acute pneumonia which mostly happens due to poor ventilation, malnutrition and bad weather.

The villagers from the Khadda area from where the deadly disease started and took life of 3 buffaloes and a cow between September 28 and October 2 had informed the veterinary department officials about the sick animals but they died before their treatment could be started.

Majority of the critically-ill animals in Hariharpur is famous for producing milk.

Babban Yadav , a villager of Hariharpur, whose one buffalo and two cows are afflicted with the same disease said that veterinary doctors used to vaccinate the animals but this year they didn’t

The outbreak of deadly disease has raised a question as to what happened to the Rs 2 lakh allocated for the animals vaccination.

“What happened to vaccination of the animals for which the state government had allotted Rs 2 lakh for this district this season?” asked Brijesh Rao, a local journalist.

“Kushinagar borders Bihar where Assembly elections are going on. The politicians are raising a hue and cry over the beef issue to polarise voters in the poll-bound state. Even the politicians of UP want to keep this issue alive till the 2017 Assembly elections. But they don’t have time to spare for Kushinagar’s dying cows and buffaloes,” Rao added.
