CPI Seeks Support of People, Pol Parties for AP Bandh on Aug 11

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has called upon the people and political parties of Andhra Pradesh to support the bandh call given by the party on August 11, in support of their demand for granting special status to the new State.

Two two national Secretaries of the party, Dr K Narayana and D Raja, met the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the Parliament House today and submitted a memorandum pleading for grant of special status to Andhra Pradesh. They said later that the Home Minister has assured them that he would discuss the issue with the concerned. “We felt the Central Government is playing double game on this special category, because Minister Arun Jaitely giving contrary statements. So we are unable to believe on Central Government for giving special category of Andhra Pradesh”, they said and called upon the people and political parties to support the Bandh.

In the memorandum, they said: “You are well aware of the fact that Andhra Pradesh state was bifurcated while Parliament proceedings were in Pandemonium and chaos. The then ruling party Congress, at present the main opposition party and present ruling party BJP, the then opposition Party have given commitment to grant special status to future state of Andhra Pradesh. Though the name of “Andhra Pradesh” is old one but the entire state is new one.

“There is no infrastructure for a state capital of 13 districts. No buildings for various government offices Adequate Capital is lacking for government institutes etc. Income has become limited.

The people of Andhra Pradesh were compelled to agree for bifurcation while both the major parties of the country have agreed for special status to new state of Andhra Pradesh. But surprisingly the present Union government is going back from its commitment for granting special status on the name of recommendation of 14th of Finance Commission this is not fair. This should be reconsidered. We are sure all Political parties will also agree for it. Already piled up problems will not be solved with mere sanction of some funds. Hence we request you to grant special status for Andhra Pradesh”. (NSS)
