Kannur: Two workers belonging to the CPI (M) and BJP were killed in Kerala’s Kannur district by an unidentified gang within the last 12 hours.

The assailants came in a jeep and motorcycles attacked C V Danaraj, 36, a native of Kunnaru in the district, with machetes around 10.30 p.m. on Monday when he was entering his house, police said.

He was rushed to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital by locals. But he died on the way to a hospital near Kannur. CPI (M) has blamed the BJP for the attack on its worker, a local leader.

Two hours later, C.K. Ramachandran, 46, an auto driver and RSS worker was stabbed to death by another gang at his home in Annur village. He was the local leader of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the labour wing of the RSS.

CPI (M) Kannur District Secretary M.V. Jayarajan said that “RSS has engineered political violence as part of conspiracy”.

“The RSS leaders are instigating the cadres for violence and supporting their acts. They have publicly announced few names in their hit list last week,” Jayarajan said.

Police suspect the murder was related to the political violence in the district post elections. Police has deployed Rapid Action Force in several places in the district.
