Chandigarh: Himanshu Jain of Haryana after interning with Amazon for three months realised that he had to do something else in life and turned down a proposal of 22lac per annum by Amazon.
After two attempts of UPSC-conducted civil services exam this year, he stood 44th in the ranking.
He is a postgraduate in computer science from Hyderabad-based International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) was offered jobs by multi-national companies like Amazon and Google, HT reported.
“I was with Amazon as an intern for three months. Thereafter, they offered me a job for Rs 22 lakh. But I realised during my internship this is not what I want to do,” Himanshu said.
He applied with the Reserve Bank of India and got the of a manager, but still, he was not satisfied. The young man couldn’t get over his childhood fascination for the civil services. He was awestruck with the feeling of becoming a deputy commissioner.
“I always heard from my teachers and family how an IAS officer has the power to change the country.”
Himanshu went to Delhi and started preparing for the examination. In his first two attempts, he cleared the prelims but failed in the mains.
“Essay writing was the biggest challenge, and I scored low. So I worked hard on it for two years,” he said.
“Through my exposure in computer science, I will strive to help digitise India and introduce transparency in governance,” he promised.
