Cricket Australia pays tribute to ` Invincibles` opener Arthur Morris


Sydney, Aug.22 : Cricket Australia has paid rich tribute to former Australian opener Arthur Morris who passed away at the age of 93 on Saturday.

Expressing his grief over the legendary cricketer demise, Cricket Australia Chairman Wally Edwards said that Morris was a great man,and added that Australia have lost a cherished link to their past.

Cricket Australia also wrote on Twitter, “Cricket Australia extends its deepest sympathies to the Morris family following the sad passing of Test legend Arthur, aged 93. Vale.”

“One of the true legends and gentlemen of the game. Arthur Morris RIP champion, our thoughts are with his wife Judith and family at this time,” Australian coach Darren Lehmann tweeted.

Regarded as one of the finest openers of his era, Morris scored 3,533 runs in 46 Tests at an average of 46.48, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Morris crowning moment came during the 1948 tour of England, when he scored the highest runs for his side.

Morris made his Test debut against England in Brisbane in 1946 and went on to score 12 centuries during his international cricket career. He also captained Australia twice. (ANI)
