Cyclonic winds cause heavy damage to Bhubaneshwar airport

New Delhi: A glass panel of the departure gate and a bullet proof screen at the Biju Patnaik International airport here were damaged today after strong cyclonic winds hit the Odisha capital.

Officials said the incident occurred around 9:00 PM when strong winds shattered the glass panel of the main departure gate of the airport and a bullet proof glass placed atop a security post (morcha) of the CISF fell and cracked.

A trolley gate and a door-frame metal detector at the airport also suffered damage after they were brought to the ground by strong winds, they said.

No person was injured in these incidents, they added.

The city experienced rains in the evening in the wake of cyclonic storm ‘Maarutha’ that was expected to hit the state.
