Dalit suicide: Canadian Professor too joins the protest, reject HCU invitation

As a mark of respect to Rohit’s death Canadian Professor refuses the invitation from Hyderabad University who has to visit as Visiting Fellow this month.

Marcello Musto who is a Professor of political science at York University in Canada was invited by the political science department of Hyderabad University for a series of lectures scheduled this February.

The Canadian Professor decision came amid the ongoing nationwide protests seeking justice for Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula, Canadian Professor.

According to Indiatomorrow news, Professor Marcello Musto has announced his decision in a letter to the university wherein he has supported the protests and rallies for justice to Rohith who committed suicide at the varsity in mid-January this year.

In the letter he writes as “Under these circumstances, I would like to announce that I will not participate in any university activities that are not in genuine solidarity with this student strike.”

The Canadian professor has also supported all the protests and rallies being held over this issue.
Rohit Vemula, a Dalit PhD scholar, was found hanging at the Central University’s hostel room in the campus yesterday triggering protests across the country.

One week before his death, Rohith Vemula had reportedly written to University of Hydera-bad Vice Chancellor Appa Rao Podile asking him to give the protesting students poison instead of humiliating them.
