‘Darul-Uloom opposes damage to any place of worship’

Darul-Uloom-Deoband has said it would oppose any damage to places of worship notwithstanding religion for widening of roads or construction of flyovers and may even move court or approach the Prime Minister over the issue.

If any place of worship, irrespective of religion, is “disturbed”, then Darul-Uloom would take up the matter seriously, officiating VC of the Islamic seminary Maulana Abdul Khaliq Madrasi said yesterday.

He said they could even move court or approach the Prime Minister if that happened.

Officials of the Uttar Pradesh State Highway Authority and a construction firm reportedly met Darul-Uloom clerics seeking their cooperation in shifting places of worship which fall on the way of the proposed highway.

Madrasi, however, said the officials visited the seminary and were offered full support for flyover construction and the proposed four-lane road but they never spoke of shifting the places of worship.

Under the proposed Saharanpur-Muzaffarnagar four-lane Highway, a flyover has been planned which has at least six places of worship standing on its way.
