Gujarat: Daughter of Muslim Sanskrit teacher tops high school examination

Ahmedabad: The daughter of a Muslim Sanskrit teacher living in Yakutpura area of Vadodara has topped the high school examination. Abid Sayyed teaches English and Sanskrit at a local school and his daughter Izma Bano Sayyed has topped the list with 583 Marks out of 600.

The result of the examination was announced on Monday, in which Izma Bano scored 97.16% with 99.99 percentile. She studied at New Era Girls’ High School and now wants to become a gynaecologist.

After breaking her fast, Izmabanu said, “My mother has undergone surgery recently. Most of the women and especially our Muslim community face different types of gynaecological issues, so I want to become a gynaecologist.”

“My father was always on my side and wanted me to do very well,” she said. Interestingly, the number of people studying Sanskrit has increased in the region like her father. Especially the Muslim students have seen a considerable increase in Yakutpura.

Abhij Sayyed said that the number of students taking Sanskrit in Yakutpura was 40, which has now increased to 300, about 160 students took Sanskrit as an optional subject. Persian and Arabic were also selected by many students.

Another student, Krishna Patel, who is a student of Jai Ambhe Vidyalaya, has also received 582 marks out of 600. Krishna received 97% marks out of 99.99 percentile. Krishna said, “I want to study further with the subject of science.”

“I will pursue Mathematics in my intermediate and make a career in IT field.” he added.
