Dawn leaks report to be submitted to PM Sharif today

Islamabad [Pakistan]: Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior said has received the Dawn leaks report which will be submitted to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today.

“The Dawn Leaks report was formally submitted to the interior minister [Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan] on Tuesday at 6:45 pm,” The Express Tribune quoted ministry spokesperson as saying.

The spokesperson, however, rejected to comment on the report prior to its ‘thorough review’.

“After reviewing content of the report in detail, it will be presented to PM tomorrow. After getting approval of PM the committee’ recommendations would be made public,” he said.

The Dawn leaks report pertains to Pakistan’s English daily The Dawn staffer Cyril Almeida’s story ‘Act against militants or face international isolation, civilians tell military’ published on October 6 last year, which came under fire as it reported an alleged rift between the country’s powerful military and the government for its failure to act against the non-state actors.

The report described what transpired in a high-level meeting in which the civil leadership allegedly criticised the military’s policies on militancy.

The government repeatedly rebutted the story as ‘false and fabricated’ while the military leadership went on to call it a ‘breach of national security’.

Last November, the Interior Ministry notified a seven-member committee – headed by a retired judge Aamer Raza Khan – to probe the controversy.

One member each from the ISI, Military Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau were included in the panel.(ANI)
