DBM canal tenders in three days: Harish

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today directed the officials to complete tenders process in two to three days for DBM 60 Canal under SRSP Statetwo works.

The State government has released Rs 1.55 cr for the works and tenders should be called to begin works in three days, Harish Rao said. He said that efforts are on to release Rs 750 for modernization works of SRSP in near future.

 The minister held a review meeting on SRSP Stage two works and sought maintenance of quality at every level. The plan is to irrigate 20,000 acres additionally by filling up 45 lakes and reservoirs under the project he said. Immediate measures should be taken for repairing of the projects, canals, distributaries, minor, sub minor canals and removing stench or waste material, he said.

By taking up construction works at DBM the lakes will be filled up to bring under irrigation the targeted 20000 acres and ensure tail end farmers get waters for their crops. There is large demand for irrigation waters for Palakurty, Dornakal constituencies from the SRSP and we need to complete the works on priority basis he said. The Government has already released Rs 1.02 cr for construction of under tunnel of the SRSP project he said. Water will be given to low Manair from mid Manair by December and will connect SRSP with Kaleshwaram project next year. (NSS)
