New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued notice to Public Works Department (PWD) and BSES over non-functioning of street lights in Vasant Kunj area which is prone to crime against women, especially during night.

Station House Officer of Vasant Kunj police station wrote a letter to the Commission requesting its intervention for ensuring proper functioning of street lights at Nelson Mandela Marg and Aruna Asaf Ali Marg.

“The SHO informed that the area is prone to crimes against women, especially at night time and unavailability of street light in the area is increasing the risk of crimes against women,” said a senior DCW official.

The SHO also informed the commission that despite repeated letters written and calls made to BSES and PWD to repair the street lights on these roads, no action has been taken so far on the issue, which is preventing police from discharging its duty properly.

“The Commission has taken cognisance of the complaint has issued notices to BSES and PWD asking about the status of the action taken and reasons for non-functioning street lights,” the official said.
