Decision on TDP MLAs’ merger undemocratic: Jana Reddy

Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in Assembly K. Jana Reddy has expressed wonder over the decision of Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary to accept the plea of 12 TDP MLAs for their merger with TRS Legislature Party.

Speaking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office here on Friday, Jana Reddy said that the Speaker did not take any decision on the disqualification petition filed by the Congress against four defected MLAs. “Without disposing off one petition, how could he take a decision on a petition submitted later?” he asked.

Jana Reddy said that the decision to merge 12 TDP MLAs with TRS was undemocratic and unconstitutional, as the Speaker did not act on Disqualification petitions submitted by the TDP long back. He said that the Congress party would consult constitutional experts before proceeding to court on the issue. He expressed fear that the move would pose a permanent danger to the democratic norms.

The Congress leader also accused the TRS Government of imposing unilateral decisions during the Business Advisory Committee of Assembly. He said that the TRS was misusing its strength in the Assembly. He said Congress has no plans to move a No Confidence Motion against the Speaker as the party does not have required numbers. (INN)
