Defence Expo 2016 kicks off in Goa today

Panaji (Goa): India’s biggest ever land, naval and homeland security exhibition – ‘Defence Expo 2016’ will begin in Goa on Monday.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will inaugurate the four-day biennial event.

The Expo is being held for the first time outside the national capital. Parrikar will also launch Defence Procurement Policy (DPP) online during the Expo. He said the policy will be put on the Defence Ministry’s website.

The Expo has received registration from 1,053 companies from 47 countries.

It includes major defence production countries like Russia, United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, Israel.

They will vie each other to display their warfare ware in their stalls and demonstrate the capabilities of their defence equipment.

The first three days will be devoted to defence equipment business and limited to the delegates while the exhibition will be open for the people on the fourth day on Thursday.

Apart from massive participation by the major public and private sector companies in India, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will be participating in a big way.

DRDO’s participation in this event is marked with the live demo of Airborne Early Warning and Control System, Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, Arjun Main Battle Tank, Wheeled Armoured Platform AKASH, Air Defence System, Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher, state of art Radars, and other equipment.

On the first day today, the expo will also host a number of seminars on warship building and maritime research.

It will also have a seminar devoted to the Advanced Technologies in Submarine Construction. (ANI)
