Delhi govt felicitates 7 differently-abled persons

New Delhi: International Day for Persons with Disabilities turned out to be a special affair for seven differently-abled persons who were today felicitated by Delhi government for their achievements in various fields.

Delhi Social Welfare Minister Sandeep Kumar felicitated them for their exceptional achievements in the field of creativity, sports, entrepreneurship and social work as part of the State Awards for Persons with Disabilities, 2015.

Kumar said the AAP government has drafted a policy for persons with disabilities and put it on the web seeking comments and suggestions from different stakeholders.

The awardees include Sanjeev Kumar and Kajal Sharma, who were felicitated for their achivements in “creativity”. While Matroo and Phoolan Devi were conferred awards for their notable performances in sports.

Devi is the first Indian to have won a Gold medal in power-lifting at the Special Olympics World Summer Games (WSG) in Los Angeles this year. Both of them are inmates of ‘Asha Kiran’, a home for the intellectually challenged.

Preeti Monga was the lone person who won the award for her notable achievements in the entrepreneurship field.

Jitender Aggarwal and Anjlee Aggarwal were felicitated for their achievements in social work at the programme also attended by Transport Minister Gopal Rai.
