Delhi to join world in observing Earth Hour today

New Delhi: As part of efforts to spread the message of energy conservation, New Delhi will join a billion people in over six cities across the globe to observe the Earth Hour today.

It will be observed by switching off electrical appliances between 8.30 PM and 9.30 PM.

As the Earth Hour coincides with the India-Pakistan match in ongoing T20 World Cup, power Distribution Company BSES urged Delhiites to cheer for India while observing the Earth Hour.

Earth Hour is an annual international event created by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature/World Wildlife Fund) that urges households and business establishments across the world to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for an hour at the appointed time, to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.

In India, the focus of the campaign this year is on the potential of solar energy as a viable and renewable source of power.
