Delhi police constable assaults Loni SHO, arrested

Ghaziabad: A Delhi Armed Police (DAP) constable was arrested today for allegedly assaulting a police team engaged in removing encroachers from roadside pavements at Loni trisection.

SHO, Loni, Avdhesh Pratap Singh said that a drive was launched to remove roadside encroachments to ease traffic movement. The decision was taken after a meeting with SDM, Loni, and office bearers of Vyapar Mandal, Auto Transport Union and municipal authorities.

During the drive, a fruit seller opposed the move and started arguments with the police. His cousin Shakeel Ahmed, the Delhi police constable, also arrived there and started arguing with the police and claimed ownership of the kiosk.

In the ensuing tussle, Ahmed assaulted the SHO causing minor injuries. He was immediately arrested.

Senior officials of Delhi Police have been informed about the unruly behavior of the constable.

An FIR under sections 332, 353 and 186 IPC has been registered and Shakeel will be produced in court tomorrow, the SHO said.
