New Delhi :A fire broke out at a shop in north Delhi’s shopping hub of Kamla Nagar on Thursday in which properties worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed.

There was no report of loss of human life. A Delhi Fire Services official said an emergency call was received around 11.50 am with the caller saying the basement of a ladies purse shop located on Kolhapur Road in Kamla Nagar market had caught fire.

Fourteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot and by 1.45 pm the blaze that had spread to other floors was doused, added the officer. People who were inside the shop when the fire broke out, immediately rushed out as they saw smoke coming from the basement, said a senior police officer, adding there was no loss of life.

The fire might have been caused by a short-circuit but the exact cause is under investigation, police said. The loss from the fire is estimated to be between Rs 10-15 lakh, said the police officer.
