Dhoni biopic becomes the first Indian biopic to earn highest opening weekend

New Delhi [India]: Despite ban in Pakistan, the recently released biopic ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story” has earned an estimated 3.3 million dollars in the international market in the opening weekend.
With this, it marks the fourth highest opening weekend of 2016 and becomes the first Indian biopic and the first sports based film to earn the highest opening weekend.

Below is the breakup of key markets:

In the United States, the movie made 1.1 million dollars;

In the United Kingdom, it earned 2,47,000 dollars;

In the Middle East, the film earned 1.2 million dollars’

In Australia, it made 1,93,000 dollars.

In the Indian market, the Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer flick opened to a whooping Rs. 21.30 crores on the first day and became the highest non-holiday release of 2016.

Ruling over the box office since its release, ‘M. S Dhoni – The Untold Story’ shows huge jump and collected Rs. 24.10 crore on Sunday.

The Neeraj Pandey directed film also stars Kiara Advani, Disha Patani, Bhumika Chawla and Anupam Kher.

On a related note, the film has seen the second biggest weekend collection after Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan.’ The supreme numbers beats movies like ‘Rustom,’ ‘Fan’ and ‘Housefull 3.’ (ANI)
