Diamond merchant robbed of Rs 3.50 lakh cash, jewellery

New Delhi: A diamond merchant was allegedly robbed of Rs 3.50 lakh in cash and jewellery in Vivek Vihar area in Shahdara, police said today.

The incident happened last night when the merchant G B S Chauhan was in his car and his vehicle was stopped by a few men, police said.

It is suspected that they were waiting for him to arrive and as soon as he arrived, six men surrounded his car, police said.

When he didn’t roll down the windows, they broke the window of the car and threatened him.

Police suspect that someone close to the victim might have masterminded the robbery since the robbers had allegedly questioned the victim about the bag kept in the rear space of the vehicle.

They allegedly broke the window of his car with their pistols and took away Rs 3.50 lakh and the bag containing 300 grams of jewellery kept in the rear of the car, police said.

Police is scanning the CCTV footage from the spot to identify the accused.
