Digvijay Singh hits out at Manohar Parrikar over remarks on army, seeks apology

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Wednesday demanded that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar apologise to the Indian Army for his “disgraceful” remarks after the surgical strikes in PoK that he “made armed forces realise their power.”

Speaking on the surgical strikes by the Indian army in PoK, Parikar last week said, “Lord Hanuman did not know of his powers before going to Lanka. Similarly, I made our armed forces realise their power…On the orders of Modiji, the Army did a great job.”

Singh was himself under attack for his remarks raising doubts over the surgical strikes. Congress had steered clear of any action against him.

The party had, however, totally dissociated itself from Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam’s remarks suggesting the surgical strikes as “fake” and had said that it had taken a serious note of the comment.
