Djokovic, Williams named top seeds for Australian Open

Johannesburg : World number ones Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams have been announced as top seeds for first major of the season, Australian Open, which starts from Monday.

The Serbian will aim to clinch his sixth title while Williams, who is recovering from a knee injury, is looking forward to bag her seventh Australian title.

Andy Murray has been named as second seed ahead of 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, Sport24 reported.

Meanwhile, Stan Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal are placed at fourth and fifth respectively.

For women’s singles, Simona Halep of Romania has been named as the second seed ahead of Spain’s Garbine Muguruza and Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska.

Five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova is placed at fifth while Victoria Azarenka of Belarus is seeded at 14. (ANI)
