Don’t make haste in formation of new districts: Kodandaram

Hyderabad: Chairman of Telangana Political Joint Action Committee, Prof. Kodandaram told that Govt. of Telangana is making haste in the formation of 17 new districts. He told that it is a haste decision. He was addressing a press conference yesterday. He pointed out that the Govt. should have presented its plan to the public for getting their opinion. The pros and cons of the issue should have been discussed thoroughly. Without taking into consideration all these issues, the decision to form new districts is unjust. He advised the Govt. to stop the process of formation of new districts.

He further told that normally geographical boundaries taken into consideration for the formation of districts. In 1972, an act was made for the formation of two districts which is outdated in the present day context. He also told that Telangana Political JAC welcomes the step taken by the Govt. for the formation of new districts but he suggested that a clear cut mechanism should be evolved for this purpose. A committee or a commission should be constituted to elicit public opinion and take a decision after hearing the views of the public.
