Drop all charges against students: UoH JAC

Hyderabad: The members of Joint Action Committee for Social Justice – UoH on Monday demanded that all charges against the students and faculty of University of Hyderabad should be dropped.

Speaking to media persons here, JAC member Devi Prasad condemned the police action against the protesting students. He said Muslim students, who participated in the agitation, were specifically targeted by the police and they were brutally beaten up while them of being terrorists. He alleged that some police officials were not happy over the association of Dalit and Muslim students.

The press conference was also addressed by Marika, Shoeb, Ameer Ahmed and Rohith Vemula’s mother Radhika.

The JAC leaders also reiterated their demand for removal and arrest of Appa Rao and others under Prevent of Atrocities Act and passing of Rohith Act. Demanding “de-militarisation of the campus”, they accused the police of indulging in unnecessary and targeted violence, false detention, misinformation about the detained people and physical and sexual assault of women students and faculty.
