EAMCET paper leakage: CID grills two brokers

Hyderabad: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials on Tuesday have detained two brokers of an educational consultancy for their alleged role in the Eamcet-2 paper leakage that helped students to score high marks. Four rank holders were also being grilled by the CID, the cops said.

However, sources revealed that the two brokers – Venkat Rao and Ramesh- were detained by the sleuths based on vital clues. Names of the students are yet to be revealed by the cops. CID is expected to give more details about the investigation soon. Additional two teams have been formed who raided a few places in Khammam, Vijayawada and Warangal where the brokers operated. A special team raided the residences of students at Parkal, Bhupalpally and Mahabubabad in Warangal district on Tuesday.

CID officials have said that there are about 60 students who benefitted from the question paper leak. “Investigation is still under progress. The mentioned rank holders are likely to be grilled. We also suspect that lakhs of rupees were involved in the scam,” the CID officials said adding that financial transactions were also being scrutinised. Probe officials feel that the papers were leaked from the printing press. Involvement of insiders, most probably clerical staff or other employees of Eamcet, are also being verified by the investigation team.

Five of the students who secured high ranks and who belonged to the same Vijayawada-based coaching center disappeared five days prior to Eamcet-2. They reappeared on the day of Eamcet-2 and attended the examination. The case of the missing five students, huge differences in their Eamcet-1 and Eamcet-2 ranks and their call data records are now under the scanner of the CID.
