East Delhi gets construction and demolition waste plant

New Delhi: A construction and demolition waste plant built at a cost of nearly Rs 20 crore and spread over 2.5 acres in east Delhi’s Shastri Park was inaugurated today.

Constructed over a period of eight months under a PPP model, the plant would recycle approximately 500 MT of debris daily into construction material such as sand and footpath tiles, EDMC Mayor Harshdeep Malhotra said.

The plant has been built in partnership with IL&FS, which would run it for 15 years before transferring it to the corporation, he said.

East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari said the setting up of the plant to curb air pollution and management of construction waste is a laudable step. He said that information about this plant would be provided in Lok Sabha during this session.
