EC bars candidates from seeking votes on grounds of religion

In an apparent bid to discourage politico-religious parties to woo voters by using religion as a tool, the State Election Commission has barred contesting candidates from seeking votes in the name of religion in the upcoming GHMC elections.

State Election Commission is geared up to strictly implement model code of conduct in connection with GHMC elections. A team of observers comprising of IAS officers have been activated and are directed to make a tour to review the implementation of model code of conduct. According to model code of conduct any party or candidate cannot create hatred among the people on the grounds of religion, sect or language.
