Eight terrorists killed in Pakistan military airstrike

Islamabad: At least eight militants were killed and several others injured in an airstrike by Pakistani military in the country’s northwest North Waziristan region on Sunday, officials said.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement that Pakistani Air Force jets pounded several hideouts of suspected militants in Datta Khel and Shawal towns of North Waziristan, a semi-autonomous tribal area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The identities of the militants were not revealed in the statement. However, it was reported that the killed insurgents included both local and foreign terrorists.

The airstrike was part of the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan area which has so far killed over 3,000 militants.

According to an earlier statement by the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relation, the army’s media wing, operation in Shawal town is the last push against militants as the nearly 18-month-long offensive has entered its final phase after most of the areas in North Waziristan have been cleared of the militants.
